When you are a breeder, the goal besides maintaining the beauty and health of your breed, is also to breed to the written standard. Years of learning pedigrees and bloodlines, doing research, showing to make sure your cats conform to the standard can be challenging and frustrating. With a slow maturing breed you never really know what you have until those kittens are mature adults. But sometimes, a kitten is born and you know just right away that the kitten is as close to perfection as you've ever seen it. Best you ever bred. The kitten looks great up to 4 weeks old, and then goes into a dangly stage, where we hit ourselves in the head and go "Oh lord I was wrong". And then as they go through their awkward stages, you keep taking pictures, you keep hoping and then they are around 8 months old and BAM! There's your siberian. You start to see on pictures what you have been hoping for, for 8 long months. It's starting to develop like you hoped and it's starting to look like you imagined. That is very exciting for a breeder, and our one and only Bee Do is one of them. Hands down the best kitten we ever had. At 8 months old is she huge, with big, heavy boning and she is turning into an absolute stunner. Judge for yourself….
At the end of the year, we always make up a balance looking back on all that has happened and what we have to look forward to.
We have been very successful in the show halls with both Yahroma and Jojo, and we have made many families very happy with wonderful siberian kittens. I am grateful for all the updates and pictures I always get (please keep them coming) so I can see how the kittens are doing in their new homes and how they are growing up. Nothing makes us happier then seeing pictures posted here on the page or getting an email with lovely pictures and updates.
Some of our "old timers" such as Toyka, Hulda, Ladybug and Zakhar have been retired and placed into loving pet homes. This is never an easy thing. They are either born here or they come to us at a very young age, and we are very attached to them, but they deserve a home where they will be a much loved and spoiled pet without having to deal with the stress of other cats around. We are very fortunate we have found wonderful families for all of our retirees, which made it easier on us, knowing what a great home they have now.
We have successfully placed a few breeding cats with dear friends and fellow siberian breeders who are doing wonderful and are successful in the show halls. It is not easy to find breeders to work with that uphold the same standards as we do, and we are grateful for the small group of outstanding breeders we are fortunate to work with.
We have brought in several new kittens from all over the world. Some are turning out to be a huge asset to our breeding program, and some are not exactly what we hoped for or expected, but that comes with the territory of getting new cats and unknown lines we have never worked with before. We love them all the same and if they don't work out for us in our breeding program, we will find them loving pet homes.
We are starting to keep several of our kittens that are born here, which are a result of years of hard work and collaboration with other breeders. Bee Do, Jojo and Bindi are 3 of them that we are excited to see grow up. It's amazing to watch our hard work pay off in the form of 3 outstanding kittens that will hopefully be a great asset to our breeding program.
We're very much looking forward to next year. We have some promising pairings coming up and our youngsters will all be having their first litters in the spring/summer of this year. It will be very exciting to see what that will bring us.
It's been a great year, without major problems, with lots of happiness, wonderful new kittens, great results in the show halls and great ongoing friendships. We thank you all for your love and support and for those of you that have a kitten or cat from us, thank you for choosing us. We know you have many, many options and we are grateful you decided to get a siberian from us. Thank you to all of you for being a part of the Mystic Melody family.
That leaves us nothing but to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2016!
