When you pick up your kitten at the airport, I understand you are enthusiastic and you want to squeal with joy and pet your kitten.
DON'T DO IT!
Your baby that is only 12 weeks old has just been through a scary airport full of strange, loud noises, smells and scary people, not to mention on a flight from their home to their new family. Your kitten is exhausted, worn out and terrified and he is not going to be happy to see you.
If you are so dumb to go straight against the instructions of the breeder and the courier and you take a terrified kitten out of a carrier, squeal in its face "OMG you're so cute!" and you're trying to hold it play with it in an airport full of noise and people, you can count on the kitten not liking you and trying to get away from you.
Well, it happened. A breeder I know just told me her kitten got out at the airport because the owner went straight against the instructions of the breeder and the courier, took the kitten out, started squealing loudly and the kitten whacked her in the face and got out and it took them 2 hours to catch the kitten who was absolutely terrified. The breeder told the courier to bring the kitten back to her and refunded the people their money. Good for her.
If you refuse to listen to the breeder on how to handle a kitten when you receive it and you refuse to listen to the courier when she tells you not to take the kitten out of the carrier, you're asking for it. And then you are surprised when the breeder wants the kitten to come back. If you ignore the simplest instructions, what else are you going to ignore?
We work with cats all day every day, we know how they act, react and we base our recommendations on our experiences. You are doing yourself a disservice when you choose to ignore it because you think you know better.
Thank goodness my kitten buyers have been nothing but fantastic!!!
